| What do you guys make of this? Personally, I think it's a stunning example of Western Propaganda! They made it out to seem that the Russians were really evil and the Georgians were so innocent when the South Ossentians are almost all Russian by descent, they supported the Bolsheviks throughout the Russian Revolution and it was them that invaded Ossetia in the first place ¬.¬ Plus, notice how few of the Ossentians have come onto the news to speak out? It's because they're aren't entirely bothered. Only the Georgian President - aka Bush-wannabe - cares because it's a blow to his stupidity. They even tried to launch it when everyone was distracted by the Olympics...
Well, I am behind Russia on this. What do you guys think? | |

| A welcome distraction to the overhyped PR stunt, followed by endless tedium, that was the opening of the Olympics. I wouldn't put it past the Russians to have helped supply the Ossetians (Admitdely its not a trick unique to them). It's not georgia's fault they were on the wrong side of the border, thats how Stalin drew them up, deliberatly mixing ethnic groups. There are other ways to resolve it. The Russians overstepped their rights going beyond the region, although you could see their point had they stayed, and I doubt Georgia would be quite so stupid as to decide to provoke and take on Russia. If anything the timing with the olympics would have harmed their chances of receiving western sympathy and aid, even if half the western armies weren't tied up in Afganistan and Iraq already. | |

| Hmm... Well, at the end of the day, I have no support for Georgia in this one. For me, the Russians have merely fought back against an invasion and, since it was Georgia that triggered the hostilities, I'm totally for Russia. | |

| Georgia haven't actually 'invaded' anywhere. yes, they moved troops into the breakaway regions, but regions that are internationally recognized as being within its borders, russian population or not. I am not without sympathy for the russians as they could always claim to be protecting their people but at the end of the day, they moved into another states territories (even beyond the regions, which is what loses them my sympathy) and georgia did not. | |

| True, but when Georgia is essentially American Jnr Jnr (after the UK, of course) I'm just happy to see any country standing up against that. Plus, they seem to be far less damage than the Georgians have been - if you take a look at any of the news stories, notice how they all avoid telling who exactly it is that's destroyed the house or the shop or the building? It's because in the majority of cases, it's the Georgians... | |

| Anyway, haven't we heard the russians 'protecting citizens' excuse before? It's valid, I'm not questioning that, but I can't help but remember that it could lead to a lot more for the russians. It sound very good supporting those to stand up to those who become the US's pets but the Russians would inly make sure they become their pets. | |

| I'd rather see more Russian pets than US pets - at least the Russians aren't trying to brainwash us all with mindless celebrity garbage and reality TV ¬.¬ | |

| I feel I should point out that they don't seem to be keeping to their agreement to withdraw, not even from the non-dispured areas. | |

| Good for them At the end of the day, the Georgian public isn't up in arms, is it? I find that neverendingly amusing really. Are they holding demonstrations? No... Are they rallying up against the Russians? Nawh... Most of them seem, dare I say it, slightly satisfied? Even they must realize what a fool Saakashvilli (sp?) is! | |

| In that case they really must hate him, still a bit extreme though. we don't wish an invasion or terrorist attack so we can get rid of Brown. it's a shame russia won't withdraw, not for georgia's sake but for their own, they won't be able to do anything, even if its right, if the world is keeping a distrustful eye on them. | |
