well, I did get manager of the year (obviously) and most of the manager of the month awards. oh yes and despite difficulties I've almost finished a season on the other save so I'll be back to us tonight, although transfer stuff always takes some time before the actual game. the players are good enough to survive on their own, even without the reinforcements that will be brought in so I doubt fear of the drop will be an issue, however whether we'll be able to push to the playoffs is anyone's guess.

sorry its been a while, haven't been playing FM much of late, here's the latest update.

pre-season was promising with a win against league 1 grimsby and a draw against champtionship Plymouth. The season started as badly as the last with another defeat, however the wins made a welcome return and 9 games later we had touched the top. a draw dropped us off top. 2 more wins set up a showdown with top of the table oxford. we had the lead but they came back and we lost the match, this was followed by another to make it the first back to back defeats ever, this was extended to 3 losses in a row, however the team came back with a few wins, another draw, then a record breaking run of wins (longer than anything it managed dominating the South) and gradually the gap started to close on the annoyingly consistent front runners. eventually top spot was touched again, but then came 2 games against out nearest rivals, both draws which meant we just lost it. from that point on it was a straight race against oxford for top spot. a susteined run of wins combined by their slight form drop meant we overtook and just kept it despite losing the 3rd last game. The season wasn't over as good cup runs had culminated in an FA Trophy (sort of non league cup) final also against oxford. They took an early 2 goal lead before 4 2nd half goals brought the first cup trophy home. that's 3 honours in 2 seasons. however this was a close one so the rise must be at least temporarily checked soon. Into league 2 which techincally should be the easilest as 2 go down and 4 go up (which means 7th is a playoff place) in currant form that's where we are likely to be at least. on another note, due to the table rising I didn't bother setting any rivals as that would be pointless, however I do take interest in the fellow promotee and after this season it will be especially interesting doing battle with oxford once more.

one warning for you though, the upgrades are cyclical, the weaker players get upgrade priority, Max believe it or not despite his massive 1st season haul was (just) the weakest of the 4 so was upgraded, hence his massive form last time, you're strong enough that it was the other 2 who were improved this time, but that leaves you as the only upgraded forward so this might not be so strong for you, although it does leave give you priority upgrade for season 4.

Well I've just reached the first 10 games of the new season. we won the opening game 5-4 (despite being 3-0 down), and it wasn't until the 9th that we lost, despite that being the 4th time we had played another early front runner! the draws from most of those mean we're not top but very close. 3rd on the same number of points as 2nd and 1 behind 1st, and as I said, a few of the tougher games done already with just 1 defeat. also promising is the easy wins over 2 league 1 teams (in in a friendly, the other in a cup) and the narrow 4-3 defeat to championship southampton in the league cup (being 4-0 down, this was just after the opening game comeback). it seems that after every post promotion upgrade we're already good enough for the level above, so maybe the 5 in a row isn's so impossible. certainly this year has us looking good for win number 3, and already being good against league 1 teams means that after the next post promotion upgrade odds are good for that league as well, while leaving us on course to have a strong championship team once we reach that level.

sadly not, a very mixed run sees up close to the edge of the playoff places while almost halfway through. some good cup results against league 1 teams oddly enough.

I will, don't worry about that. and we have loads of time as FM 09 is due to be released in mid-november, 4 weeks later than usual. as for this league. I'll pick it up this evening although I have to be alert for the latest developments elsewhere.

Well, as soon as I resumed we stormed to 7 wins in a row (all december games and first january) to be well top! However after that we then won and lost in consecutive games (which was really annoying) until the last 9 games. then we won 3 in a row, lost 3 in a row (where we briefly lost top spot to scunthorpe) and then... yep you guessed it. we won 3 in a row to finish and win. This was actually easier than the Blue square prem on the basis that we only went top near the end than where we had a good lead for ages (even when we were swapping wins and defeats it stayed at around 5-8 points). and in the fa cup, league 1 teams were beaten in rounds 1 and 2 (as well as in another cup), with defeat to top of the premiership chelsea in the 3rd round but only 3-1 (with a 2nd goal disallowed). so thats more good news.
