he didn't impress me much either. but the problem was more with american society. they're very patriotic which gives them more of a loyalty to the president, especially in what's techincally a time of war, and especially the armed forces (as he's C in C), he also still has the president's resources (like inteligence, see the fact he was obviously wired sometimes), so whoever faces an incumbant has the odds very much against them. plus bush is lucky with his terms, he was able to use 9/11 to rally the people but the 2004 election was too early for his anti war opponents to be a threat as back then it would still have been considered unpatriotic not to support it.
