RAM FC

I've been using the FM editor to create RAM's very own club. not sure if I'm going to use it and if so how, how (in terms of what division, whether to create custom players and all that), but I thought I'd put it up anyway just in case something becomes of it.

Ive been thinking of that, however we don't really have enough regulars, which could take a while, so far I've put them in another save (which I've only played a short stint of few months of) in a sort of 'rise up the leagues' situation.

Maybe, however I go on a 'squad of 22' basis and its unlikely we'll have that many regs, I could always have a hybrid squad of members and players, but that creates problems of how to set the stats, especially in 'rise through the leagues' games as members should be good enough to star even in higher leagues without being stupidly high for the lower ones, the latter would also create problems of players going to big clubs, either with boards automatically accepting bids or eventually players not wanting to renew contracts. ironically in that sort of situation less member players is preferable. Or I could nickname real players like I did in previous games if problems arise.

Any prefered positions. I bag goalie.

(Maybe you could do a sorta combo team, if you don't have enough RAM members add some old KSF-ers, or maybe some of your uni friends.)

That's an idea, in fact I have a concept Archeology Society team on the same db, one I'm managing in that save with the RAM team (although due to the problems of progamming players suitably for the rise through the leagues, the squad was real players), I could combine the 2. It'll only take a short time to do. I'll do a simple renaming of players into members as thats by miles the easiest way to do something like this.

I'm stll trying to fill all the squad slots with the non-members, however it'll be running shortly, I hope to be able to create it in the next couple of days and make it a main game. any position preferences starom?

I did it this evening, however when it was saving a friend of my sister stood on my adaptor cable, pulling it out, and as I haven't managed to put the battery back in since it was returned from servicingm not only did I lose it but the file was corrupted so I've had to do it again. However it only took a short time to redo the club data, finding and putting theplayers in will only take a matter of minutes. then I can start the game, 'nickname' the players to the members and others and it'll be ready. just a few pointers

1. only 8 of the 22 player will be RAM members, ts technically a joint club.

2. I've chosen players who are marginally better than the best players in the division to represent us altering a few positions and wages to managable levels as appropriate, a nice way of having a strong squad without being overpowered.

3. as I make transfers, the new players will take over the 'identities' of those replaced, the fully thing about that is that we may have people put in more than once in the 'overall best 11' that the game does for each club.

4. FM 08 is terrible for giving teams a long costly bad patch or 2 every season that renders it almost impossible to finish top unless your squad is infinitely superior so don't expect an easy ride up the divisions, even in the lower leagues.

the stadium is named after a band created by members of the society that form the other part of the club in case any one was wondering. I've added green to the kit, the away kit is the arcsoc kit. Here is the squad (RAM members have single word names, Arcsoc members have double, I've tried to spread the positions out to have the highest potential number of members in the team at any 1 time)

We're now in december of the first season, almost half of it gone. It started badly, Max had a goal disallowed in the first game which ended in a draw before losing the next one. however suddenly starom, started scoring for fun, followed by max when he wound down, and 9 games later (11 overall), almost all of which were won, we were top, a few more games later and were still top by a few points, the top 2 (Eastbourne being the other) being well ahead of the rest already

hmm, especially good given the team haven't gelled yet (and will take months, after all they all started as strangers) still this is the easy part, I made the team to be good enough to do this, the higher levels will be the real challenge, especially if it happens too quickly. The game often suddenly brings on a very bad run when you're going well so its too early to celebrate but I think we're almost at 1 down already.

I think Henry meant '1 down' as in 1 promotion out the way already

yes indeed.. if we can hold it, but we've won almost every game since the opening stumble.

The title has just been clinched with 6 games to go, although technically goal difference made it 7 before the next game confirmed it. more info at the end of the season.

So we're into the Conference Proper now?

yep.

a run of wins in december saw the lead at 15 points by new year, however in january there were quite a few draws in a row which cut the lead a bit (though it was large enough that it wasn't much of a bother, I think the lowest it got was 7 or 9). after that run it was wins all the way (11 in a row) to the title, claimed outright on points with 6 games to go, a draw in the 3rd last game were the only points dropped after january. however there was still interest as we relegated braintree on goal difference after beating them (actually hammered them, but the margin didn't make a difference) on the last day, saving bromley. the winning margin was so great it was... well see for yourself.

and the player stats. in case anyone is confused, Foley isn't a member of either of the club's 2 sections, and is actually a youth player who has not progressed yet to be turned it to one of us yet, I like to give future stars plenty of first team time so did so after the title was assured.

I have also just remembered about the 'best 11', but that's not released yet, I'll update the post when it is, next time I'll wait until then to do the update, as you can also see who won the playoffs.

Overall this season was a bit easier than I expected, or would have liked, more of a practice for the actual challenge. Having checked out of interest for the level of players I could buy (money talks) I was impressed at what I can upgrade with, which will help as for the sake of team balance I rarely make more than 6 a year, which makes the overpowered nature of the squad now very useful. Next season will not be so predictable, will the 16 who don't get upgraded still be strong enough at a higher level to be pushing for another promotion immediately? will it be more a season of in the middle before promotion the following year (which I think will happen), or whill the gap be great enough that we'll be looking nervously at the relegation struggle (I doubt we'll be actually in it, more not so far above)?

also I've decided to alternate between this and my other game, so I won't be on it until sometime sunday, not tomorrow
